Some grooms arrive at a first consultation with one clear idea. This groom arrived with several, and one in particular that few tailors are able to take on.

The commission was a full tailored tuxedo for his wedding: a shawl-collar dinner suit, cut in a lightweight cloth for a warm summer’s day. Inside the jacket, hidden from everyone but him, was a lining printed with photographs of Jared and his partner from the years before they married.

Like a Million Dollars

Jared’s description of the day starts with the suit itself, and with a comparison anyone who has worn both will recognise.

“While wearing the suit it made me feel like a million dollars. You can definitely feel the difference between an off the shelf suit and a custom made one.”

Light Enough for the Heat

A dinner suit is traditionally a heavier garment. On a 25-degree day that matters, and the choice of cloth did as much work as the cut.

“The fit and comfort was exceptional and the lightness of the material was needed, especially it being 25 degrees outside.”

Although it was made for the wedding, the tuxedo has a life beyond it.

“I got mine done specifically just for the wedding but can use it elsewhere if needed.”

Ideas First

Asked what stood out most about the process, Jared pointed to the way the consultation was run.

“Richard let you put all your ideas out first and listened, then said what we can achieve and what bits go well together.”

It is the right order. The first job at a consultation is to understand what a client wants, before shaping it into something that works.

The Lining

The detail Jared values most is one nobody else at the wedding would have seen.

“I got a custom liner done within my jacket of old pictures of me and my partner throughout the years before getting married. Only a very few tailors offer this, and the trust that you can put in to Richard getting this done is second to none.”

A photo lining turns a well-made jacket into something that belongs to one marriage. It is the kind of detail that means more each time the jacket comes out of the wardrobe.

Opening His Eyes

For some clients, a first bespoke commission changes how they think about clothes altogether.

“I think it has opened my eyes in terms of how a fitted suit makes you feel and look.”

From First Message to Collection

Jared came to RN Tailoring without a personal recommendation, after doing his own research.

“I didn’t have any recommendations in this field so had to do my research and came across Richard via Instagram, and saw that he’d done everything I wanted to do for my tuxedo. So I took the plunge and went with him, and I can tell you now I will never look back.”

What kept that decision feeling right was the communication along the way.

“From the first initial text to the pick up of the suit has been fantastic. The fast replies whenever you send him a message, to the updates of where he is at with your custom piece, was really good.”

In His Words

Jared’s advice to anyone considering a commission is short.

“Get any of your tailored items from him and you will not look back. You will be recommending him to all your mates.”
