The finest bespoke tailoring in the world should not require you to travel for it.
Why Location Matters More Than You Think
There is a standard version of the bespoke tailoring experience that requires you to clear a morning, travel to a city-centre location and conduct measurements in a formal fitting room designed for commercial throughput. This experience is fine. It is not optimal.
A man measured in his own home, wearing the shirt he typically wears to work, standing in the posture he naturally adopts at his desk — that measurement is truer. The environment shapes the measurement. The measurement shapes the pattern. The pattern shapes the fit.
What the Initial Consultation Involves
A first consultation with RN Tailoring typically runs sixty to ninety minutes. Richard arrives with cloth bunches from Scabal, Holland & Sherry and Dugdale Brothers, along with design references and everything required to conduct a complete set of measurements.
Between twenty and thirty individual measurement points are recorded, along with notes on posture, dominant hand, shoulder balance and movement patterns. Nothing is estimated. Nothing is approximated.
Subsequent Fittings
A baste fitting — where the partially made suit is tried for the first time — takes place at your location eight to ten weeks after the initial appointment. Adjustments made here, before the cloth is fully committed, define the final result. A final fitting confirms everything is correct. Richard travels to you for each appointment.
Who Uses This Service
Senior Professionals and Executives
Those whose schedules make travelling to a city-centre tailor an unnecessary overhead. Private appointments at the office or at home are arranged around existing commitments with minimum disruption.
Private Clients at Country Properties
Clients based outside major cities benefit from Richard’s willingness to travel. Appointments can be coordinated with regular visits to the area, or arranged specifically for a commission.
Those Who Value Discretion
For many clients, the private nature of the appointment is itself the point. No waiting room. No conversation conducted within earshot of a showroom. The fitting is entirely, exclusively between you and Richard.
Coverage Across the UK
Richard’s practice extends across the United Kingdom: the Midlands, London, the South East, the North, Yorkshire, Scotland and beyond. Appointments can be coordinated to coincide with existing travel — a fitting before or after a London engagement, or during a visit to a country property.
When to Begin
A bespoke commission runs to twelve to sixteen weeks from initial consultation to completion. The best time to commission a great suit is always several months before you need it. The second best time is now.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a bespoke tailor come to my home in the UK?
Yes. RN Tailoring operates exclusively by private appointment, with Richard Neasham travelling to clients anywhere in the UK. All consultations, measurements and fittings take place at your home, office or chosen venue. There is no retail premises to visit.
Does a private fitting produce a better result than a showroom fitting?
In most cases, yes. A measurement taken in your own environment — in the clothing you typically wear, in your natural posture — is more accurate than one taken in an unfamiliar location. More accurate measurements produce a better fit.
